What is Meningitis B?

There are many different types of meningitis. This disease is serious and causes the tissues around the brain and spinal cord to swell and become inflamed. Meningitis is caused by a bacteria and is spread by:

  • kissing
  • sharing the same drink
  • coughing
  • sneezing

Bacterial meningitis (called Meningitis B or MnB) is an aggressive illness that is fatal in 10% of the cases. There are vaccines for other types of meningitis but there is currently no vaccine to prevent MnB.
