So you want to quit smoking. Good for you!
You probably know that quitting smoking is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself. Smoking is currently the number one cause of preventable death in the United States, and cigarette smokers are two-to-three times more likely to have fatal heart disease than nonsmokers.
Your heart will thank you. But now what?
Clinical Research Associates is conducting a research study with a smoking cessation medication compared to placebo (an inactive look-alike pill). The study drug, Chantixâ, is approved for smoking cessation and has been proven in clinical trials to be effective in quitting smoking. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of Chantixâ in an investigational treatment model that uses self-selected quit dates.
To be eligible for this study, you must:
- Be between 18 and 75 years of age.
- Have smoked an average of at least 10 cigarettes per day for the past year (with no period of abstinence greater than 3 months).
- Not use any non-cigarette tobacco or nicotine product during the study.
- Not have ever taken Chantix®.
- Not be currently depressed.
- Not have been diagnosed with depression in the past year, or taken anti-depressants for depression within the past year.
Qualified participants will receive study medication, study-related evaluations and smoking cessation counseling at no cost. Study participants will also receive compensation for travel.
