  Flu Vaccine

This study will be investigating the use of a vaccine against influenza (flu). Influenza or “flu” is a common respiratory (lung) virus caused by several related viruses. According to the CDC, about 5 to 20 percent of the population gets the flu every year. Outbreaks of influenza occur each winter and are responsible for an average of about 36,000 deaths each year in the United States.

This study will be investigating the use of a vaccine against influenza (flu). The purpose of this study is to test whether or not the Fluzone ID influenza vaccine (which is injected into the skin) works the same against influenza as the Fluzone® IM influenza vaccine (which is injected into the muscle). The main difference between the vaccines is the way they are injected into your body, but also Fluzone ID contains less active drug than Fluzone® IM

To be eligible for this study, you must:

  • Be 18-64 years old on the day of vaccination.
  • Not have received the flu vaccine in the past 6 months or any vaccine in the last 4 weeks.
  • Be on an effective method of birth control if you are able to become pregnant.

The investigational flu vaccine or flu shot is at no cost to qualified study participants, and compensation for time and travel will be provided.
