  Diabetic Hypertension

More than 5 million Americans have both high blood pressure and diabetes, which is a growing concern for health care providers. High blood pressure and diabetes are risk factors for heart disease.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death in patients with Type II Diabetes, so, lowering the blood pressure for these people is very important. If you have Type II Diabetes and high blood pressure, you may qualify to be in a clinical research study.

This clinical research study is being done to see how well three different FDA approved medications work together to lower blood pressure in Type II Diabetic patients. While these medications are not yet approved to be used together, they are all FDA approved by themselves to treat high blood pressure. Combinations of these study medications are already used by doctors to treat patients with high blood pressure.

To be able to be in this study, you must:

  • Be between the ages of 18-80
  • Have Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
  • Be newly diagnosed as having high blood pressure (also called hypertension) or have uncontrolled high blood pressure even though you are on medication for your blood pressure.
  • Have your diabetes under control (and do not require insulin)
  • Not have any major heart problems within the last 6 months

If you are eligible to be in this study, you will receive study-related tests, medical care and study medications at no cost. You will also be reimbursed for time and travel.
