Nighttime heartburn and sleep disturbances are common in people with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Nighttime heartburn is often considered more bothersome than daytime, because it contributes to sleep problems. Some studies have shown that nighttime reflux, which is associated with longer duration of esophageal exposure to gastric acid, leads to more severe injury to the esophagus (food pipes).
The purpose of this 4-visit, approximately 6-week study is to determine the effectiveness of a research medication compared to placebo for relief of nighttime heartburn.
To qualify you must be:
- 18 to 65 years of age
- Experiencing nighttime heartburn with GERD associated sleep disturbances
- Diagnosed with esophageal erosions at least 6 months or more
- Willing to undergo screening procedures which may include Endoscopy
All study related physical exams, procedures and research medication will be provided at no cost. Compensation is available for time and travel
