Clinical
Research Associates, Inc., is seeking volunteers to participate in a stop smoking study. Smokers often have trouble quitting. Part of the problem is the strong cravings smokers feel in situations where they used to smoke. Medications for quitting smoking may be able to help reduce these situational cravings.
The purpose of this 2 visit (approximately 9 day) study is to test the effect of a non-nicotine based smoking cessation medication, compared to a nicotine lozenge, in terms of their ability to relieve smoking cue induced craving in a laboratory setting. The study will also assess differences between the medication and lozenge in the time course of craving intensity following exposure to a smoking cue and in time to complete relief of craving, and assess incidence and intensity of side effects.
To Qualify you must be:
- Between 18 and 65 years of age
- Motivated to Quit Smoking
- Smoked daily for the past year and smoke your first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking
Qualified participants will receive:
- Study related physical exams
- Study Medication
- Compensation up to $150 for time and travel
- Provisions for a full course of medication will be provided at the completion of study to continue your quit attempt
