Recent studies show that in all levels of elevated blood pressure, there is a strong correlation between blood pressure reduction and protection from cardiovascular disease. Even so, only about 43% of all people with high blood pressure achieve a BP <140/90.

Benicar,(olmesartan medoxomil) has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension (high blood pressure). This research study will test the effectiveness of this FDA approved medication at different dosage levels in comparison to placebo (non-active medication).

To participate in this approximately 16-week (8 visits) study, you must be at least 18 years of age, relatively healthy, and have elevated blood pressure. This study will require you to take your own blood pressure at home after the fourth visit. This equipment will be provided.

Participants will receive:

• Study related exams
• Study medication
• Compensation for time and travel
